Wind Chime Alarm Clock
i need ways to keep chickens moving around when im not there?
im raising chickens and somone told me its important to have them moving around a lot and i have though of a lot of ways to keep them moving while im there but ideas while im not there is the problem.
some i thought of are
-alarm clock
-radio
-wind chime
-pin wheel
and moving kids toys but i dont think the toys would work cuz they need to be able to move around in thick shavings
Your chickens will get plenty of exercise if they have a good environment such as grass, perches, shade, food, water, and some chicken scratch. The way that chickens usually get exercise is by scratching at the ground to look for insects to eat, or to look for chicken scratch that you can sprinkle on the ground for them. The also get exercise by dust bathing, stretching their wings out in the sun light, chasing each other, chasing insects, jumping up onto their roosts or perches, and doing other natural things in an enriched environment. If you put on a noisy alarm clock or something to startle them, you may end up with stressed chickens who do not lay eggs very well. Also, if you are raising them for meat, the adrenaline level in their muscles will make their meat tough and bad tasting.
Don’t worry about keeping your chickens moving around all the time. The person who told you this may have been thinking of factory farm chickens who have to live in cages and can’t move at all. That is unhealthy, but if your chickens have thick shavings to kick around in, they are probably doing much better. Just make sure that they have adequate space, food, water, grit, and fresh air. They will be healthy and happy!
